Things I’ve Learned I Love About Wedding Photography

I was scared of wedding photography for a long time. It felt like a lot of pressure and a marathon of a day that I wasn’t sure would bring me much joy. And now, I feel differently. I am not going to revamp my business and give up my lifestyle shoots – but I am definitely at a place where I would like to sprinkle in a limited amount of weddings per year. Because I have realized – there are a few things about them that I really love.

The Relationship With the Couple (Especially the Bride).

One of the biggest surprises? How much I love forming a real relationship with my couples — especially the bride.

By the wedding day, I’ve usually been along for the ride through engagement photos, planning calls, and timeline changes. By the time the big day arrives, I’m not just “the photographer.” I’m a familiar face – a calming presence, joke-maker, sometimes a dress fluffer – and hopefully a hype woman.

Being trusted during such an emotional, personal day is not something I take lightly — and it’s honestly one of the most meaningful parts of the job.

And I Love the Moments.

Weddings are full of genuine, unscripted laughter — the kind that can’t be staged. The bridal party cracking jokes while getting ready, a groom trying to act cool and failing miserably. A flower girl doing literally anything. I get a front-row seat to so many hilarious, joyful moments, and I get to preserve them forever. And I love that.

I also love the real, special moments. The ones that are so quiet and meaningful you almost forget you’re working. A deep breath before walking down the aisle, a parent’s hand squeeze, a dad seeing his daughter in her dress for the first time. Being allowed into those moments — and trusted to capture them respectfully — is incredibly moving. It’s an honor I will never get used to.

And I’m into the Adrenaline Rush.

Wedding photography is not slow. And as a self-proclaimed spaz, I love that.

What I thought would feel like too much pressure, ended up feeling like a rush. Needing to get the shot, moving quickly, anticipating moments before they happen, adapting when the timeline goes off the rails – there’s something exciting about not knowing exactly what’s coming next and having to think fast while still creating beautiful images. It keeps me on my toes — and makes every wedding completely different. And while I usually hate those moments in life, somehow I love them in photography!

And the Venues Create Opportunity for Such Cool Shots.

Whether it’s a grand estate, a coastal venue, or a cozy barn with perfect light, the beauty that exists in wedding spaces is unreal. The way light moves through a room – the texture, architecture, whatever – these places were made to be photographed. And they create such stunning backdrops for telling a couple’s story.

And of course I love Getting Creative (and a Little Weird).

Some of my favorite images happen when I slow things down for just a moment and get creative — trying something unexpected, playing with movement, reflections, framing, or light.

Wedding days are structured, but within that structure there’s space to create something unique. I love leaning into that. Taking a risk. Making something that feels a little different and very them.

And I love Seeing the Details.

The invitation suite. The rings. The shoes kicked off under the table. The way the table is set. The small things that might go unnoticed in the blur of the day — but mean everything later. I love capturing these details because they tell the full story. They bring the memories back in a way that big moments alone can’t.

So, Yeah. I’m into it.

Wedding photography is emotional, fast-paced, beautiful, unpredictable, exhausting, and deeply fulfilling — sometimes all at once.

I get to connect with incredible people, witness moments that matter, laugh a lot, move quickly, create art, and preserve memories that will outlive the day itself.

It’s also exhausting and the editing is a beast so with four insane children at home I am going to limit the number of these that I take on. But if you’re looking for a Massachusetts wedding photographer who cares deeply about your story, your people, and the moments in between – who will make you laugh and hype you up – I’d love to be there with you.
